In an ever-evolving world, gunshot wounds and explosive injuries, has unfortunately become more common. It is certainly a reality that first responders may be looked towards to initiate the first steps in the "chain of survival" giving victims the best possible option at not only surviving the injury but making a quicker recovery and limiting the long-term associated disabilities.
This training module is designed to augment candidates with existing first aid knowledge and provides realistic reviews of the initial care and intervention. Training is adapted to the most recent best evidence-based research and provides candidates with knowledge, skills and confidence.
Our course covers a variety of topics including
- Understanding basic ballistics
- Gunshot wounds to the head, chest, abdomen, pelvis and limbs
- Bleeding control
- Use of the combat application tourniquet
- Wound packing and haemostatic dressings.
- Explosive injury wound patterns
- Initial approach to the explosive injury patients
- Essential first responder equipment
Preferably first aid qualified.
Total hours for this course is 4.5 hours.
Course is held for half a day.

BushMed Course
Persons spending time in the outdoors and bushveld are exposed to a variety of tropical diseases such as Malaria, Tick Bite Fever and Bilhazia. Additionally, environmental exposure such as heat stroke, frost bite and sunburn can easily be encountered. The outdoors and wilderness brings added challenges such as bites and stings. With many of these bushveld and outdoor medical risks, early identification, early diagnosis and early medical intervention are paramount to providing the required definitive care. FireMed has created the Bush-Med Module to provide knowledge, skills and understanding to identify and seek care for the tropical, environmental and bites, stings and envenomation health risks. Preferably first aid qualified. Total hours for this course is sixteen (16) hours. Course is held over two (2) days. Per person R400.00 Certificate of attendance is issued to participant.

Blood loss from trauma is a leading cause of death worldwide. Battlefield studies conducted by various militaries have brought the importance of revised techniques and equipment for controlling and stopping bleeding in casualties.
This compact course is streamlined to 2 hours and equips candidates with life saving skills to arrest bleeding quickly and effectively in the field. It debunks a lot of the previously taught skills and introduces the latest updates to the candidate such as effective wound packing, Tourniquets etc.
Preferably first aid qualified.
Total hours for this course is two (2) hours.
